Discover Italian quality! This is a beautiful Italian leather journal handcrafted by skilled artisans in Florence, a one-of-a-kind journal wrapped in the finest distressed leather.

Like an old volume discovered in a Medieval monastery, the leather is timeworn, with scuffs, scrapes, uneven patches and rough spots. It is intentionally made to look older than it is. The irregular markings are not defects, but marks of character that make the journal look and feel like it has had years of use.

  • 320 pages (160 leaves)
  • Blank unlined pages with rough deckled edges
  • Small measures 5.5" x 7.5"
  • Medium measures 8" x 10.5"
  • Large measures 11" x 14.5"
  • Genuine leather with hardcover construction
  • Emerald green endsheets and bound-in ribbon bookmark
  • Permanently bound with stitching, not refillable
  • Can be personalized with embossing

  • The paper's texture is thick and rich while its color is creamy and warm and the deckled pages are hand-cut, with rough edges. The leather color can vary from a warm honey brown to almost black. Of course the book is acid free and archival so your memories will be preserved for generations to come.

How do I take care of my distressed leather journal?

All Epica leather is hand picked, colored, stained, cut, glued and otherwise entirely distressed by hand. Our leather is specifically chosen for its antiquated feel and durability. You'll be thrilled to know that maintenece is easy! Nearly all scratches, blemishes and other markings can be buffed easily out with a dab of LIGHT shoe cream or leather conditioner. Test a small spot on the back to make sure the brand you have selected won't alter the color. clear cream is always best. Apply in a circular motion and buff if necessary. However, we think you'll find that your Epica book will remain beautifully preserved for years to come.

Some of your books or albums seem to have some scarring on them, are they damaged?

No they are not. Scarring is a natural characteristic of leather.

There are four basic types of natural scars in leather which are condidered normal and characteristic of leather:

  • INVERTED - These types of scars often appear as small pinholes from the hair follicle, pock marks from insect bites, or lines indented from light scraping against a fence.
  • RAISED - These types of scars are almost always raised lines in design caused from the cow running into barbed wire, or fighting with an animal.
  • TREE KNOTS - This type of scar is found in many shapes and appears as if there is a gouge and the area surrounding the gouge appears very dry, much like refinishing the area around a tree knot in wood.
  • Other natural marking that are often found in leather hides include insect bites, healed scratches, barbed wire marks, stretch and vein marks, and age wrinkles.

  • Here is what to expect when we say that our specialty is DISTRESSED leather: Old world character, rustic feel, classic, traditional, antiquated look, hand made, rugged, durable leather products from Florence Italy.

We want you to know that we pick our leather because of it's unique old world feel. Our leather comes from a very aggressive animal. This may mean that an animal scar (which to the untrained eye may appear to be a scratch) or unique marking or indentation will be present on the book or album.

A true scratch, like a fingernail scratch for example, will have a much thinner look than natual animal scarring. Rest assured that any truly damaged product will not pass our quality control and will not be sent to you.
Personalize your book by adding an embossed name or phrase for only $15 per line. You can personalize your book with embossing on one or two lines, up to 20 characters and spaces each. To choose this option, fill in your personalization information above.
