An oblique holder is different from a straight holder, and is preferred by some calligraphers because it allows you to write at a consistent angle.
Your nib is inserted into a metal flange that is attached to the holder. The flange juts out at an angle, causing the nib to point in a direction that is entirely different from the direction of the holder. The length of the handle has an ergonomic shape for comfort.
