Our Commitment to the Environment

At Jenni Bick Bookbinding we are committed to living and working in ways that are both socially and environmentally responsible. We strive every year to become ever more environmentally conscious in our operations, while providing our unique mix of journals and albums at a fair price, and sourced from socially responsible manufacturers. We also keep an eye out for new earth friendly products which reflect the quality standards we demand of all the items we sell.
We also have and will continue to donate to green projects through TerraPass and projects of personal importance to us such as planting tress in Afghanistan. We also feel great about the knowledge that everyone who buys a book from us is not driving miles around town to find our hard-to-find products.

Today

This year, we have begun several environmental initiatives that strengthen and reaffirm our environmental commitment:
  • We have been fortunate to add several Earth Friendly product lines
  • We recycle a very large percentage of our waste, and made that service available to our employees as an option.
  • We serve as a community collection center for local households and businesses who, rather than throw it in the trash, bring us all the packing material that comes to them as they receive shipments containing packing material of all kinds.
  • Many communities now have businesses or non-profits who collect shipping material from consumers for re-use, since many municipal recycling centers will not accept Styrofoam. You can read more about these programs here: Recycling Styrofoam
  • We reuse as much shipping material we receive as we can, and we recycle what cannot be reused.
  • We speak regularly with our vendors about how they can be less wasteful and more carbon neutral. And, of course, where we can we used recycled products in all our operations.
  • We employee people who live close to our offices. Many of us choose to walk, bicycle, or carpool to work
  • We are vigilant in our energy consumption, and make efforts to turn off power consuming lights, computers, and office machines when they are not in use.

  • Tomorrow

Looking forward, we are working with our landlord to make our building more energy efficient, and are exploring the possibility of switching to solar power for all or part of our electrical needs. We are also considering ways we can work with our existing manufacturers to design and market our own lines of green products.

    What You Can Do

When you shop with Jenni Bick Bookbinding, there are a few things you can do to shop greenly.
  • Choose ground shipping if you're not under a deadline, because air freight overall is always more expensive and uses more carbon.
  • Consider buying from our Earth Friendly product lines.
  • Consider a Refillable journal, which consumes fewer raw materials over time.
  • If you think you might need another item soon, do all your shopping now so we donŐt need to use another box shipping to you, and the UPS driver saves a few blocks, or miles, driving around.

  • Our commitment to environmental responsibility and social justice is real, and we are excited to invite you to join us in our efforts to live more wisely and consciously. Here are a few websites you might want to visit where you can learn more:
