Logo Embossing FAQ
At Jenni Bick Bookbinding, we are passionate about good design. Colors, fonts, textures...these are the things that excite us. Our collection of journals and photo albums is second to none, and our personalization options make them even more special. Whether you are looking for a one of a kind heirloom gift or a thousand notebooks customized with your company logo, we have a solution for you. Typeset personalization, logo imprinting, full color monogram plates, and custom title pages are all ways we can personalize your book.

To engrave your book with a custom logo or design, we'll make a metal die out of your design. The die is heated and pressed into the cover of your book, either with or without a color fill. The die can be used just once or thousands of times.

How long does it take?

Turnaround time will vary depending on the quantity of books in your order. 2-3 weeks is a good rule of thumb. If you need your order sooner, no problem. Just let us know early on about your deadline and we will work with you to make it happen.

How much does it cost?

To add a logo to your book, there is a $150 setup charge and a $2.50 per book imprint charge. Much of this cost is offset by our 15% bulk discount that applies to orders of 50 or more pieces.

What size and color can my logo be?

The maximum size for your logo depends on the size of the book and the design of your logo. Our artists will work with you to achieve the look you want. There are a million variations, and your books will be completely unique. For ideas, browse through our gallery of logo jobs.

Will I see a proof before the books are embossed?

Absolutely! Creating digital proofs is an essential part of the process. Once your order has been placed, email us your logo. We will prepare a digital proof for you showing you the size and position we recommend. If you want to make changes, we will work with you to adjust until you are happy. Your input is very welcome, but if you need some help, we will be happy to guide you. Once you have approved the final proof, production begins.

Because all embossing is done by hand, some variation is to be expected.

For a price quote, just give us a call or send an email. Tell us the specific item, quantity, and your deadline, and we will prepare a written price quote for you.

Another way to personalize your journal or photo album is with typeset embossing. To emboss a name, title, or initials, we will use old-fashioned metal letters to spell out your inscription. The letters are then heated and pressed into the book cover.

How long does personalization take?

Typeset embossing is done in-house and usually takes one day. Orders are sent to the art department very quickly, and we strive for speedy turnaround time.

How much does it cost?

Standard typeset embossing costs $15 per line.

What font is used? What size will it be?

Our experts will choose the font size based on the length of your inscription and the size of the item. We strive to keep embossing in proportion to the overall size. If you have a specific request, you can indicate it in the "special instructions" box at checkout, and we will try to accommodate you.

Embossing is always done in Goudy Old Style, as shown here. We do not offer a selection of fonts. If a different font is required, you can choose to have a custom die engraved.

Where does the inscription go?

The embossing will typically be placed in the optical center of the book. Other positions are completely possible, all you have to do is ask. When you place your order, please use the special instructions box at checkout to let us know if you have a preference for a certain position. If there is a problem with your idea, we'll contact you to discuss options.

Your inscription will be typeset EXACTLY as you type it on your order.

This means spacing and capitalization as well as spelling. Personalization orders are sent directly to the art department, so it is very important that you review all spellings and dates before submitting your order to be sure everything is correct.

How long can my inscription be?

Every item that can be embossed has boxes above the order button that can be filled in with your inscription information. Most items have space for two lines, up to 20 characters and spaces each. Extra small books may only have enough room for initials. Additional lines or spaces can sometimes be added. If your inscription will not fit in the space provided, give us a call so we can discuss the design with you.

What color will the engraving be?

We recommend blind embossing on many of our products. Blind embossing is a burned-in impression of the letters. There is no color to fill them in. Blind embossing has a very subtle and modern look. On many items, silver, gold, white, or blavck foil can be added for an extra accent. See individual item pages for our recommendations.

Because all embossing is done by hand, some variation is to be expected.
